Patella Tendinitis (Jumper's Knee) - Treatment
Sonocur® therapy is often very effective in the treatment of patellar tendinitis. Maximal effectiveness (75-80%) is most likely to occur when the painful area is at a specific point over the affected site. Generalized, non-localized knee pain should not usually be treated with Sonocur® therapy.
As with Achilles tendinitis, steroid injections are not usually given because of the risk of tendon rupture. Sonocur® therapy has often been effective in those with localized pain. As with other conditions, additional adjunctive measures may also be needed.
Conventional treatment includes:
The Sonocur® Orthopedic Extracorporeal Shockwave system is available in Canada and other countries where regulatory approval has been obtained. The Sonocur® Basic is FDA approved in the United States for the treatment of chronic lateral epicondylitis (tennis elbow).
